LEONARD L. RIVKIN

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH


Leonard L. Rivkin is the founding partner in the firm of Rivkin, Radler ∓ Kremer, the largest law firm on Long Island, comprising approximately 200 attorneys.  The firm's offices are located in New York, Illinois, New Jersey and California.

Mr. Rivkin received his law degree from the University of Virginia Law School.  Mr. Rivkin served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded two Purple Hearts and the Silver Star by order of the President of the United States.

Mr. Rivkin was the national trial counsel for The Dow Chemical Company in its toxic tort Agent Orange lawsuits.  He was national coordinating counsel for a major asbestos manufacturer in claims against the United States and the company's government contract defense.  His office is national coordinating counsel for major insurers' hazardous waste and environmental coverage efforts.

He is a member of the American, New York State, and local Bar Associations as well as many trial lawyer associations.  He is a member of the International Academy of Law and Science; the Federation of Insurance and Corporate Counsel; the American Judicature Society; former Director of the Nassau and Suffolk Inns of the Court; and the Federal Bar Counsel. He is a former Special Professor of Law at Hofstra University School of Law.

Mr. Rivkin has been a lecturer and author for the American and New York State Bar Associations, the Defense Research Institute, Federation of Insurance and Corporate Counsel, Practicing Law Institute, National Environmental Enforcement Council Journal, National Association of Attorneys General, and many other local and national trial groups.  He was the Editor in Chief of the Hazardous Waste and Toxic Tort national monthly newsletter published by Leader Publications.  He is an avid boatman, recently authoring a number of articles on European Cruising for Yachting Magazine.  He has also been a member of the Governing Board of New York State Maritime Academy and Downstate Medical Center.

Mr. Rivkin was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws by Hofstra University School of Law.  He has also been honored for his many civic undertakings, including being the Honoree for the American Committee on Soviet Jewery, Long Island Epilepsy Foundation, Boys Town of Italy, Long Island Yeshiva, and Shaare Zedek Medical Center of Jerusalem.  He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Florida Atlantic University Foundation.
